― Donalyn Miller, Reading in the Wild: The Book Whisperer's Keys to Cultivating Lifelong Reading Habits
Several people came in to help us with our Wild Reading Rumpus: Lee came in and read The Sun Egg by Elsa Beskow. Mr. Elliott came in and read from Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen and talked about his life as a reader. Mr. Jeffrey came in and told us about his and Madeline's summer reading plans (Harry Potter series on audio on their upcoming trip across the U.S.) and read us some of his favorite poems.
“The best way to measure how much you've grown isn't by inches or the number of laps you can now run around the track, or even your grade point average-- though those things are important, to be sure. It's what you've done with your time, how you've chosen to spend your days, and whom you've touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success.”
― R.J. Palacio, Wonder
What a great day. Some kids wore pjs. Many brought pillows and stuffies and books to share. Kristi & Krissi brought in popcorn, pretzels, grapes, homemade chocolate chip cookies and sparkling water. Mostly kids just found comfortable spots and read and read (including me). At one point, Luka said, "This kinda feels like a sleepover." And at the end of the day, Henry B. declared, "I think we should have this once a week." :)
